How to choose a safe for a jewellery shop
What jewellers should look for in a showroom safe, from tray capacity, double doors and dual-control locks to weight and strongroom doors.

For a jeweller, the safe is part of the daily routine. Stock goes in every night and comes out every morning. A good showroom safe has to be secure and practical to use.
1. Size it around your trays
Count and measure the trays and boxes that go into the safe at closing time, then add room for growth. Look at the inside height and depth so trays slide in on shelves without tilting.
- Smaller showrooms: MV-48 (260 L) or MV-60 (340 L)
- Growing showrooms: MV-48DD (293 L) or MV-60DD (450 L)
- Large showrooms and wholesalers: MV-72 (660 L) or MV-72DD (677 L)
2. Consider double doors
Double-door safes open wide so staff can see and reach every shelf, which makes loading faster at opening and closing time.
3. Use dual-control locking
Most jewellers prefer two locks, typically a combination or electronic lock with a computer key lock. That way no single person can open the safe alone. Maa Vihat safes can be fitted with combination, dial, electronic password or computer key locks.
4. Weight and installation
Heavier safes are far harder to remove. Our showroom-size safes weigh about 900 kg to 1,900 kg, with a 10 mm steel door plate, and are installed free by our team.
5. Plan for a strongroom as you grow
When stock outgrows a single safe, a strongroom with a vault door and grille gate protects the whole room. We fabricate strongroom doors to your wall opening.
6. Interior layout
Ask for shelves spaced to your trays and internal drawers for loose items and documents. As the manufacturer, we can adjust interiors on custom orders.

Frequently asked questions
What size safe does a jewellery shop need?
Measure the trays you store overnight and allow room to grow. Small shops often start around 260 to 340 litres; larger showrooms use double-door safes of 450 litres or more, or a strongroom.
Should a jewellery safe have two locks?
Dual-control locking, for example a combination lock plus a key lock, is widely used by jewellers so that no single person can open the safe alone.
